Women’s Soccer Loses at Rowan

Forced to Use Field Player in Goal, Pioneers Drop 9-1 Decision

Box Score GLASSBORO, N.J. – Forced to use a field player in goal, the William Paterson women's soccer team (3-7-2, 1-3 NJAC) dropped a 9-1 decision at Rowan (11-1, 3-0 NJAC) Oct. 5.

With senior keepers Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) and Mary Jane Seiler (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) both unavailable, junior back Kelly Garrido (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.) was pressed into service between the posts, seeing the first keeper work of her career less than an hour before kickoff.

The Profs' Erika Suhl knocked in a rebound 1:14 into the match to put Rowan on the scoreboard, but junior Alana Keffer (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) evened the contest when she sent a long shot off the post, her second goal of the season. The Profs scored three times in a six-minute span, carrying a 4-1 advantage into the break, and put the game out of reach with a pair of strikes during the first five minutes of the second half.

Garrido made three saves for WP, and Carleigh Trevino and Jamie Cheeka combined for five stops for Rowan.

William Paterson will host Drew Monday, Oct. 7, at 7:00 p.m.
