Cox Breaks Goals Record, Field Hockey Notches 7-0 Victory

Pioneers Cruise Past Host Western Connecticut

Senior Brianne Cox became the Pioneers' single-season goals leader (20) with a hat trick during a 7-0 win at WestConn.
Box Score DANBURY, CONN. – Senior forward Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.) became the Pioneers' single-season goals leader with her hat trick during a 7-0 William Paterson (10-8) field hockey victory at Western Connecticut (4-13) Oct. 30.

Cox increased her league-leading goals total this season to 20, moving past Lesley Ann Dube (19, 2001) and Krista Hinshillwood (19, 2003) to the top of the WP list.

Senior forward Jessica Nendze (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) got William Paterson on the board exactly nine minutes into the contest, taking a pass from sophomore Angelica Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and beating the Western Connecticut goalie with a low shot.

Five minutes later, Cox extended the WP lead after a scramble in front of the Western goal. Nendze's pass took a high carom off the turf and Cox redirected it into the back of the cage.

Cox converted an Angelica Giammetta pass less than five minutes into the second half for a 3-0 score, and senior Jacqui Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) scored off a Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) assist at the 42:21 mark. Cox completed her hat trick in the 45th minute, taking advantage of an assist from Chelf, then assisted on two goals by sophomore Felicia Wetzel (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) in the 53rd and 66th minutes. In all, Cox had a hand in five of the Pioneers' seven goals (3 g, 2 a).

Senior Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) earned the victory for William Paterson by making one save, eventually giving way to sophomore Megan Davies (Havertown, Pa./Haverford), who made two stops during the final 18 minutes of action. Freshman Kristy Trotta and senior Courtney Hearn combined for 15 saves for WestConn.

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 2, at home against Rowan at 1:00 p.m.
