WAYNE, N.J. – Four goals from four different players propelled the William Paterson women's soccer team (6-9-2, 3-5 NJAC) to a 4-0 victory against Rutgers-Newark (5-13-1, 1-7 NJAC) Oct. 26.
Freshman back
Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) got the scoring started at the 10:38 mark when she headed a corner taken by senior back
Nicole Sullivan (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) into the middle of the net to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes later, sophomore midfielder
Elena Grady (Washington Twp., N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) sent a pass up the right side to senior forward
Sheray Anthony (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) who blasted a shot to the upper left corner to bring the score to 2-0.
In the 36th minute,
Gina Cowdrick (Island Heights, N.J./Central Regional) gave the Pioneers a 3-0 lead when she found a throw-in from freshman
Alexandra Hay (Whiting, N.J./Monsignor Donovan), dribbled around the defenders to the middle of the field and sent a shot to the left side of the net.
The Pioneers connected on a second Sullivan corner kick at the 67:02 mark when
Sidney Gabrich (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) found the ball in the middle and tapped it into the net to give WP a 4-0 lead.
Seniors
Mary Jane Seiler (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) and
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) didn't need to make a save for WP in the victory. Diana Aviles made eight stops for the Scarlet Raiders.
Prior to the match, the Pioneers honored their five seniors, Anthony, Falduto, Sieler, Sullivan and
Kelly Garrido (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.).
