Women’s Soccer Forces Overtime but Can’t Overcome NYU, 3-2

Woetzel Strikes Twice for Pioneers

Freshman Tori Woetzel recorded her first two career goals Oct. 2 at NYU.
Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Freshman back Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) struck twice, including the equalizer with less than four minutes remaining in regulation, but it wasn't enough as the William Paterson women's soccer team (3-6-2) suffered a 3-2 overtime loss at NYU (5-3-1) Oct. 2.

Amelia Hammerl converted a rebound to hand NYU a 1-0 edge just 7:16 into the contest, and Leslie Smith made it a 2-0 score in the 49th minute when she knocked in Azia Javier's cross from 25 yards out.

Woetzel's first career goal came at the 73:46 mark when she finished senior back Nicole Sullivan's (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) free kick from 18 yards away. The rookie evened things up 13 minutes later, drilling a header off the post and into the net.

Erin Ahmed provided the game winner for the Violets 4:47 into the extra time off assists from Melissa Menta and Smith.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) tallied 10 saves for the Pioneers, and Cassie Steinberg had four stops for NYU.

William Paterson will travel to Rowan Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1:00 p.m.
