WAYNE, N.J. – No. 10 The College of New Jersey (12-1, 5-1 NJAC) came away with an 8-1 women's soccer victory at William Paterson (3-9-2, 1-5 NJAC) Oct. 16.
Junior Korrie Harkins handed the Lions a 1-0 edge 36 seconds into the contest after freshman Sarah Marion played a cross from the left side to the far post and Harkins drilled it into the left side netting.
Marion had a goal of her own in the 19th minute, tapping in senior Katie Lindacher's shot that was going to miss wide of the left post.
Sophomore
Gina Cowdrick (Island Heights, N.J./Central Regional) scored her first goal of the season, receiving a ball in the center of the box from classmate
Jackie Gage (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and launching a shot that spun off the right post and over the line.
Junior Leigh Applestein's attempt ricocheted into the goal at the 26:50 mark, and freshman Christine Levering assisted on her second straight goal when she pulled the keeper out on the left side of the box and slipped a ball to Lindacher, who finished for a 4-1 score during the 35th minute of play.
TCNJ struck three times during a two-minute span in the second half, as Harkins cleaned up her own rebound during the 53rd minute, then twice played balls across the box for Marion to finish in the 54th and 55th minutes. Freshman Lauren Malajian finished the scoring in the 70th minute, converting a Gina Caprara assist off a bending ball from the left corner flag.
Senior
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) collected 10 saves for the Pioneers, and senior Kendra Griffith, junior Cristina Gacos and sophomore Jessica Weeder combined for three stops for the Lions.
William Paterson will play at Rutgers-Camden Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1:00 p.m.
