WAYNE, N.J. – Paced by a two-goal performance from senior forward
Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.),
the William Paterson field hockey team (8-6, 1-3 NJAC) earned a 3-1 victory against Richard Stockton (9-4, 1-2 NJAC), Oct. 11.
Cox got the Pioneers on the board in the 12th minute when she controlled a pass from classmate
Jessica Nendze (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) up the left side and shot the ball into the right corner to give WP a 1-0 lead.
At the 38:20 mark, Nendze collected her own rebound and sent a shot to the right side of the cage to bring the score to 2-0. The Pioneers added to their lead in the 42nd minute when a
Courtnaey Chelf (Blackwood, N.J./Triton Regional) drive from the right side was deflected past the goalie by Cox for her second goal of the game.
Susie Balidemaj put the Osprey within two at the 45:25 mark, collecting the ball in a scramble on the left side and sending a shot into the back of the cage to bring the score to 3-1.
Senior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) stopped two shots for the Pioneers, while Liz Stankiewicz made three saves for Richard Stockton.
William Paterson will travel to Ramapo Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 4:00 p.m.
