WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (5-5-2, 2-3 NJAC) was blanked 1-0 by visiting Rowan (6-2, 3-1 NJAC) on Sept. 29.
The Pioneers had two good scoring chances in the first 12 minutes as senior midfielder
Laela Brock (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) took a shot from the left side that Profs goalkeeper Maria Dorris dove to push wide. WP pressed again when senior
Nicole Kufel's (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) header off a corner was narrowly corralled by Dorris.
Junior midfielder Jess Durnian got Rowan on the board, knocking in a rebound of a
Mary Jane Seiler (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) punch save at the 15:05 mark.
The Pioneers threatened to tie the match with just 27 seconds left when
Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) crossed the ball to Kufel, who redirected a header just wide of the right post.
Seiler played the first half for WP, saving two of the three shots she faced, and classmate
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) posted two second-half stops. Dorris needed to make six saves for the shutout, as WP owed a 15-8 shot advantage.
William Paterson will host NYU Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7:00 p.m.
