BOX SCORE
WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (2-4, 1-0 NJAC) opened its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) field hockey schedule with a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory against visiting Kean (3-3, 0-1 NJAC) Sept. 12.  Junior
Jacqui Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) scored twice during regulation for the Pioneers, and sophomore
Aubrey Pellerin (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) was credited with the game winner in the 72nd minute.
Giammetta handed WP a 1-0 edge just 7:28 into the contest, poking in a
Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.) pass at the right post.
Junior Stephanie Soares knotted the contest at 1-1 just nine minutes later, converting on a penalty corner for the Cougars.
Giammetta collected her second goal of the night and her third of the season, again using a Cox pass, this time dribbling across the circle before finding the back of the cage in the 59th minute.  Kean answered right back as Laura Cheatham deflected in a Soares shot, tying the contest and eventually forcing overtime.
The Pioneers drew a penalty corner just seconds into the extra time, and Pellerin redirected a long strike from near the top of the circle by junior
Annalis Mitcho (Glassboro, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology), tipping it in for the go-ahead goal 1:15 into overtime.
Junior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) collected 10 saves for the Pioneers, and Erin Langan had five stops for Kean.
William Paterson will visit Wesley Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1:00 p.m.
