Golf Finishes Season with Split at Bethpage

Pioneers Defeat Old Westbury, Fall to Farmingdale State

Senior Jim Bakelaar shot a career-best 75 (+4) during a tri-match on Bethpage's Yellow Course.

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The William Paterson golf team (5-1-1) finished its season with a split against Farmingdale State and Old Westbury April 25 at the par-71, 6,550-yard Bethpage State Park Yellow Course.

The Pioneers posted a team total of 320 (+36). Farmingdale State tallied a 29-over 313, and Old Westbury finished with a 392 (+108).

Senior Jim Bakelaar (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) shot a career-best 75 (+4) in his final collegiate event, finishing second overall. Classmate Matt Scozzari (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) carded an 80 (+9), and senior Paul Link (Wayne, N.J./Hazelton Area, Pa.) finished with an 81 (+10). Classmate Shane Edwards (Newton, N.J./Newton) shot an 84 (+13), freshman Rob Thomson (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) carded a 91 (+20), and rookie Erich Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) posted a 92 (+21).

Farmingdale's Rob Deleo took top overall individual honors with his two-over-par 73.
