VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
WAYNE, N.J. – A 42nd-minute penalty kick was the only goal of the day as fourth-seeded William Paterson (8-9-1, 4-4-1 NJAC) dropped a 1-0 decision to fifth-seeded Rowan (10-8-2, 4-4-1 NJAC) in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Soccer Tournament Oct. 27.
Following 41 minutes of intense, but scoreless, play, sophomore
Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception) was whistled for a hand ball while attempting to clear a Rowan corner kick. Senior Ryan Gordon converted the resulting PK to his lower-left and the Profs owned a 1-0 lead.
WP had the majority of the run of play during the second half, including a 13-6 shot advantage, but could not come up with the equalizer. The Pioneers' best chance came with less than five minutes remaining. Five shots from inside the box were put on goal during a 20-second span, one saved by Prof keeper Michael Fanz-Huster, two blocked, one saved off the line by a Rowan defender and the last sent wide of the left post.
WP goalkeeper
Santiago Mesa (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) made four saves, and Fanz-Huster finished with seven stops.
