BOX SCORE
GLASSBORO, N.J. – Senior midfielder
Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) scored twice but the William Paterson field hockey team (8-11, 3-3 NJAC) dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 15 Rowan (14-5, 4-2 NJAC) Oct. 27 in the regular-season finale. The result snapped the Pioneers' four-game win streak and stretch of six victories in their previous seven games.
Fourth-seeded WP will play at top-seeded and fourth-ranked Montclair State Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament. The winner will advance to the championship game Saturday, Nov. 3, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first at the 9:20 mark when Bertos hit the left side of the cage off a pass from junior
Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.). Kellie Campbell tied the score in the 26th minute when she knocked in a cross to the left side. Erin Bernat's first goal of the game came on a penalty stroke at the 29:33 mark and Rowan was ahead 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, Campbell deflected in Marisa Schoepflin's shot in the 42nd minute for Rowan's third goal. Bertos tapped in Cox's pass for a 3-2 margin at the 43:23 mark, but Alison DiMenna scored less than seven minutes later. On a later penalty corner, Marisa Marini was at the top of the circle and sent the ball to Bernat on the left side, and she blasted a 52nd-minute shot into the William Paterson cage.
Junior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) made five saves for WP, and Jen Goldberg did not make a stop for the Profs.
