WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (8-10) defeated visiting Western Connecticut (5-11) 2-0, on Senior Night Oct. 23, winning their fourth-straight game and bringing their record to 6-1 in the month of October.
Freshman forward
Felicia Wetzel (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) put the Pioneers on the board when she connected with a short pass in front of the cage from junior forward
Jessica Nendze (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.
Wetzel struck again off a broken corner play at the 55:27 mark when she tipped in a pass from senior midfielder
Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) past the goalie.
Junior
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) didn't need to make a save to earn the shutout for WP. Courtney Hearn made one stop for Western Connecticut.
Prior to the game, WP honored its five seniors- Bertos,
Kori Dicolo (Budd Lake, N.J./Mount Olive), Ally Hartman (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Twp.), Kelsey Rella (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) and
Shannon Thomas (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City).
William Paterson travels to No. 15 Rowan for their final game of the regular season Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7:00 p.m.
