NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (8-7-2, 4-4 NJAC) defeated host Rutgers-Newark (4-14-1, 1-6-1 NJAC) 3-0 Oct. 20, clinching a spot in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament.
Senior forward
Erika Juricic (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) put the Pioneers on the board in the 43rd minute as she blasted a shot from the left corner over the keeper and into the side of the net.
Juricic struck again at the 61:24 mark when she connected with a cross from senior forward
Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury).
Less than two minutes later, Juricic set up senior midfielder
Laela Brock (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) for a one-timer from the middle of the box to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead.
The Pioneers outshot the Scarlet Raiders, 19-0.
Junior
Mary Jane Seiler (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) played the first 81:01 for the Pioneers and freshman
Kat Clint (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) played the last 8:59 to combine for the shutout. Mercedes Lois made six saves for Rutgers-Newark.
William Paterson will celebrate Senior Night when it hosts Kean University on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 5:00 p.m.
