VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
WAYNE, N.J. – Two goals scored in less than two minutes allowed visiting Muhlenberg (9-4) to get past William Paterson (6-7-1), 2-1, in non-conference men's soccer action Oct. 17 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
WP freshman
Mike Conte (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute, heading in an
Andrew Tauriello (Stockton, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) throw-in for his first career goal.
The Mules began to exert more pressure in the second half, and it paid off when Cody Antonini scored twice during an 87-second span. Bryan Attanasio took a free kick in the 69th minute from the near right flank, and when the ball reached Antonini he clipped it backwards with his heel for his 11th goal of the season. Joe Adams later sent a ball towards the near post on a throw-in from the right sideline, a ball WP goalkeeper
Santiago Mesa (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) missed when he charged out to eliminate the threat. The ball squeezed through and Antonini was waiting inside the six to tap it in and make it a 2-1 Muhlenberg advantage at the 70:23 mark.
Twice Pioneer defenders cleared balls of their own goal line during the contest, and when Muhlenberg keeper Danny Pinto made a mistake and was caught out of his own goal with six minutes remaining in the contest, two WP headers could not find the mark.
Mesa finished with four saves, and Pinto made three stops.
William Paterson will return to conference action Saturday, Oct. 20, against Rutgers-Newark at 1:00 p.m.
