NEWARK, N.J. – Graduate student Joe Strawman (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) scored in the 88th minute to force overtime, and junior Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) netted the game winner in the 106th minute as the William Paterson men's soccer team (3-0-1) defeated NYU (0-2-1), 2-1, at NJIT's Lubetkin Field.

The Violets broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute when Adam Fein finished a long run down the right side and tapped the ball past WP goalkeeper Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional).

Strawman evened things up with just 2:13 remaining in regulation when the center back buried a loose rebound of a Wes Ostrzycki (Edison, N.J./Edison) shot. The goal was the first in almost two years for Strawman, who missed all but one match of the 2010 season due to injury.

The Pioneers owned a 3-0 advantage in shots during the first extra session, and that pressure paid off 5:04 into the second overtime period when junior Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) won the ball in the midfield and sent a pass to the left side to Boucher, who bent it into the upper-right corner from 20 yards out for his sixth goal of the season.

Collins made one save in goal for William Paterson, and Jonah Poster had four stops for NYU. The match was moved to NJIT after heavy rains did not allow for the contest to be played on Pioneer Soccer Park's natural-grass surface.

William Paterson will play North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday, Sept. 10, at Rutgers-Camden's Cialella Soccer Classic at 2:00 p.m.
