Taylor Clayton (Hamburg, N.J./Walkill Valley Regional) each scored a pair of goals as the William Paterson field hockey team (1-2) stormed past Delaware Valley (1-2) for a 7-1 victory in the second round of Stevenson's Black Eyed Susan Tournament Sept. 4.
Clayton got her first career goal when she knocked in an
Ally Hartman (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Twp.) cross 4:52 into the contest. Rella then finished a rebound less than 13 minutes later, and after Delaware Valley got on the scoreboard in the 29th minute, the Pioneers entered halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
Rella finished a rebound in the 47th minute for her second score of the day, and senior
Mary O'Connor (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) found the back of the cage for the first time in her career, knocking in a rebound two minutes later.
Clayton's second goal of the day came off a scramble in front of the cage with 21 minutes left, and freshman
Lauren Boegley (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) collected her first career points with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute. Classmate
April Zarro (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) poked in a rebound off the post for her first career goal with less than four minutes to play.
Senior
Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) made one save in 52:10 of action, while sophomore
Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) finished the game in the cage. Two Delaware Valley goalies combined for 18 saves as WP owned a 30-2 shot advantage.
William Paterson will open its home slate Friday, Sept. 9, against Wesley at 7:00 p.m.
