BOX SCORE
UNION, N.J. – William Paterson (1-6, 0-2 NJAC) rallied from a two-goal deficit to seize the lead, but host Kean (4-3, 1-1 NJAC) found the back of the cage twice more to muster a 4-3 overtime field hockey victory Sept. 20.
The Cougars established control early, as Stephanie Soares redirected an Olivia Triano shot in the 20th minute for her first goal of the night, and Triano added an unassisted strike less than three minutes before halftime.
The Pioneers fought back, starting with a
Brianne Cox (Browns Mills, N.J./Pemberton Twp.) tip in of a deflection 27 seconds into the second period. Sophomore
Annalis Mitcho (Glassboro, N.J./Gloucester County Institute of Technology) evened the contest in the 41st minute when she cleaned up a Kylie Vaughn-Kuehl save.
Sophomore
Jessica Nendze (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) gave WP its first lead when she swept in a deflection at the 51:10 mark. However, Triano knotted the score at 3-3 just 30 seconds later, hitting a liner high from in front of the cage. Soares provided the game winner 1:38 into extra time, tipping in a hard drive by Kelly Bachovchin.
Senior
Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) made 15 saves for William Paterson. Vaughn-Kuehl had three stops, and a Triano first-half defensive save also contributed to Kean's victory.
The Pioneers will host Gwynedd-Mercy Sunday, Sept. 25, at 5:00 p.m.
