SCRANTON, PA. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (0-0-1) outshot host Scranton (0-0-1) by a 28-8 count but could not get on the scoreboard as the two teams played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw Sept. 1 to begin the 2011 season.

Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) had several quality chances late in regulation, seeing one blocked, two go just wide and another high of the bar. The Pioneers had a goal called back with two minutes remaining in the first overtime period due to an offsides call, and senior
Joe Maddolin's (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) header hit the bar and was ruled to have not crossed the plane of the goal mouth with 30 seconds left.
WP was dominant in its pressure, including a 6-0 edge in shots during the extra time. Senior
Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made three saves for the Pioneers, and James Dillon had eight for Scranton.
William Paterson will face Newbury Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Regis (Mass.) Tournament at 1:00 p.m.
