LAFAYETTE, N.J. – The newly-formed William Paterson men's golf team (1-0) earned its first dual victory with a 319-335 triumph against SUNY Purchase (0-1) April 11 at Farmstead Golf and Country Club.

The Pioneers were led by junior Matt Deering (Howell, N.J./St. John Vianney), who shot a four-over-par 75 to finish atop the leaderboard. Teammate Matt Scozzari (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) was second overall with a 79 on the par-71, 6,060-yard format (Lakeview/Clubview). Junior Shane Edwards (Newton, N.J./Newton) tied for third place with an 80 (+9), and classmate Jim Bakelaar (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) was seventh with an 85 (+14). Junior Paul Link (Wayne, N.J./Hazleton, Pa.) posted an 89 (+18) to finish eighth.

William Paterson will compete at the Rutgers-Camden Invitational Friday, April 15, at Pennsauken Country Club at 12:30 p.m.
