Men’s Soccer Loses in NJAC Semifinals

Pioneers Suffer 2-0 Defeat at No. 25 Montclair State

BOX SCORE

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Two goals within the first four minutes of the second half allowed second-seeded and 25th-ranked Montclair State (15-2-3) to hand third-seeded William Paterson (13-4-3) a 2-0 defeat in the semifinal round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Soccer Tournament Nov. 2.

Sophomore Dan Mendoza had both strikes for the Red Hawks, the first coming just 47 seconds into the second period when he ripped a shot from 22 yards out into the middle of the goal.  He doubled the lead 2:23 later off a free kick from just outside the box.

William Paterson had a chance to get a goal back in the 55th minute when Matt Lopuski (Montville, N.J./Montville Twp.) served a corner kick. Junior Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) put a shot on goal, but MSU keeper Anthony Rogic was able to snare the attempt.

Rogic came up with another save at the 68:38 mark, denying Naeem Boucher (Paterson, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) on a header.  He came up with one more save on an Omar Jallow (Union City, N.J./Union City) attempt with 4:54 left.

WP's Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made three saves, and Rogic had six for Montclair State.
