BOX SCORE

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – For the second straight game, an overtime goal cost the Pioneers a field hockey victory as William Paterson (2-10) dropped a 2-1 decision at New Paltz (5-6) Oct. 6.

Senior Stacey Miller, who scored her seventh and eighth markers on the year, opened the scoring attack late in the second half with a goal in the 60th minute, returning a blocked shot attempt and sending it past goalie Kellye Statz (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville).

William Paterson retaliated quickly with a score of its own at the 61:54 mark, when sophomore Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) recovered the ball after a Pioneer shot attempt escaped a cluster in front of the box.  Bertos collected the ball and shot past Hawk sophomore goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri for her second goal in as many games.

In overtime, Miller deposited her second goal of the game, a shot assisted by sophomore defender Alyssa Stock off a penalty corner 2:07 into the extra time.

Pjetri earned the victory for the Hawks, collecting one save, while Statz took the loss, saving six shots.

William Paterson will host Wilkes Sunday, Oct. 9, at 1:00 p.m.
