Field Hockey Drops 2-1 Overtime Decision

Pioneers Fall to Visiting Misericordia

Sophomore Jaclyn Bertos scored the Pioneers only goal on a penalty stroke.
BOX SCORE

WAYNE, N.J. – An overtime goal sank William Paterson (2-9), 2-1, in a non-conference field hockey game against Misericordia (2-7) Oct. 4 at Wightman Stadium.

Less than three minutes into the extra time, Misericordia's Haley Ellis received a pass on the left wing from Emily Foley and punched a shot into the right side of the cage.

A second-half penalty stroke broke the scoreless tie as sophomore Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) fired a shot into the left side of the goal, putting the Pioneers ahead 1-0 with 26:45 left to play.  Four minutes later, the Cougars knotted the score when Kelsey DeBruyne cleaned up a rebound of a Danika Watto shot.  With 9:27 remaining in the second half, the Pioneers had a goal waved off that would have ended the contest in regulation.

Senior Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) registered one save for the Pioneers.  Junior Haley Brandt recorded four saves for Misericordia.

The Pioneers will visit New Paltz Thursday, Oct. 6, at 4:15 p.m.
