UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (5-8-1) wrapped up regular season play with a 3-1 loss at Kean (10-4-3) Oct. 26.
The sixth-seeded Pioneers will play at third-seeded Montclair State Saturday, Oct. 29, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament first round at 1:00 p.m.
The Cougars struck first in the 18th minute as a Pioneer defender missed a clearance, and junior Kristen Hager buried a shot from five yards out and into the lower right section of the net. The Pioneers evened the match at 1-1 on a Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) penalty kick in the 41st minute.
Senior forward Danielle Esposito punched in a low kick off a corner by Shannon Pederson to put the Cougars in front, 2-1, in the 60th minute. Kean tacked on another goal on a penalty kick by Lauren Small in the 84th minute.
Sophomore Mary Jane Seiler (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) finished with two saves for the Pioneers. Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin King made four saves for Kean.
