BOX SCORE

WAYNE, N.J. – A pair of honorees provided the goals as William Paterson (12-3-3) celebrated Senior Night with a 2-1 men's soccer victory against Kean (10-6-3) Oct. 26.

The third seed, William Paterson will host sixth-seeded Rutgers-Newark in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 5:00 p.m.  The first 100 William Paterson students with valid I.D. will be admitted for free, courtesy of the Student Government Association.

A ricochet bounced hard off a Cougar defender along the end line, sliced through the box, and a wide-open Domenick Candelieri (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) buried the loose ball for a 1-0 edge in the 49th minute.

Graduate student Joe Strawman (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) made it a 2-0 score in the 75th minute.  Junior Michael Encarnacion (Franklin, N.J./Passaic County Tech) took a free kick from 25 yards put on the right flank and crossed it to freshman Marcus Hackett (Montclair, N.J./Immaculate Conception), who headed it back across the frame.  Strawman poked the ball in at the right post and handed WP an all-important insurance goal.

That play was important, as the Cougars were able to get on the board with 3:01 remaining.  Kharee Winslow sent a pass that found its way through several defenders as it streaked toward the left post.  Pat Foley ran on and finished it, his second goal of the year.

WP's Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made five saves, and Tyler Callahan had four for Kean.

Prior to the match, WP honored its six seniors -- Candelieri, Collins, Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany), Joe Maddolin (Dumont, N.J./Dumont), Strawman and Jake Weinberg (Paramus, N.J./Paramus).
