BOX SCORE
NEWARK, N.J. – Despite a 31-4 shot advantage, the William Paterson men's soccer team (11-3-3, 4-2-2 NJAC) had to settle for a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Rutgers-Newark (10-6-2, 3-2-2 NJAC) Oct. 22. The Pioneers have secured the third seed for the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament, and will host the sixth-seeded team in a first-round match Saturday, Oct. 29, at a time to be announced.
The Scarlet Raiders scored just 32 seconds into the match when Nick Kypriano took a kick from just inside the midfield line and the ball was tough to track in the lights, finding the back of the net past a leaping
Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) in goal.
Junior
Dan Patton (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) evened things up in the 21st minute, putting away a header chip into the heart of the box by junior forward
Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) following a corner kick.
WP owned a 23-4 edge in shots during regulation, and an 8-0 advantage during overtime. The Pioneers also had a 14-4 corner kicks advantage.
Collins made one save for William Paterson, and Matt Lindberg had 10 stops for Rutgers-Newark. He was helped by two team saves by his Scarlet Raider teammates.
William Paterson will finish the regular season with a non-conference home match against Kean Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7:00 p.m.
