BOX SCORE
WAYNE, N.J. – Ten different Pioneers contributed at least one point as William Paterson (4-7-1) cruised to an 8-1 women's soccer victory against visiting John Jay (4-12) Oct. 17.
A
Nicole Kufel (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) cross was kicked in by a Bloodhound defender, an own goal that handed the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Kufel then made it a 2-0 score less than seven minutes later when she took a
Sophie Hart-Ruderman (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) pass and flighted another ball from the right corner, and this one bent in and found the back of the netting for her first goal of the season
Junior
Casey McGuigan (Hightstown, N.J./Robbinsville) broke up the middle of the box in the 38th minute and dropped a ball off to the left for classmate
Erika Juricic (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown), who scored her first goal as a Pioneer with her shot across the goal face.
Juricic struck again in the 49th minute, heading in a
Megan Droelle (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) cross from the right end line to the left post. Senior
Jessica Francisco (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) made it a 5-0 score in the 71st minute, knocking in a
Nicole Sullivan (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) corner kick from the middle of the box.
Senior
Heidi Rogers (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) drilled home a
Laela Brock (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) cross in the 83rd minute, her second goal of the season, for a 6-0 margin. John Jay finally got on the scoreboard two minutes later thanks to a free kick Gariela DeJesus headed to Bergelie Luis, who finished at the left post.
Brock answered back 35 seconds later, scoring on a long ball from the left flank. Sophomore
Sheray Anthony (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) assisted on Brock's goal, and she scored herself in the 87th minute, chipping the ball over the keeper's head after a breakaway and long run up the center of the field.
Sophomore Marcelina Kopec made 20 saves for John Jay and was helped by two clears off the line by Bloodhound defenders. WP owned a 51-2 shot advantage, and sophomore
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) had one stop for the Pioneers.
William Paterson will host Drew Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7:00 p.m.
