BOX SCORE

CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (3-7-1, 1-5-1 NJAC) played to a 2-2 double-overtime draw at Rutgers-Camden (0-10-2, 0-4-1 NJAC) Oct. 15.

With a fierce wind blowing toward the east goal throughout the day, three of the four goals were scored in that direction.  The first goal, however, came at the opposite end when Samantha Sharp sent a perfect cross from the right end line toward the far left post.  Freshman Rachel Sindoni ran onto the cross and headed a shot into the net for her first collegiate goal at the 4:05 mark.

William Paterson tied the game 11 minutes later after the Scarlet Raptors tried to clear the ball with a header and dropped it into the box out front.  Sophomore Sheray Anthony (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) was on the spot to pick up the loose ball and score her fourth goal of the season.

WP took the lead in the 44th minute on a shot from the top of the box by junior Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury).  It was her team-leading 14th goal of the season.

With the wind in the Scarlet Raptors' favor in the second half, a Pioneer back attempted to clear a flighted ball to the top of the box.  She headed it into the net for an own goal, tying the game at the 65:08 mark.

Playing with the wind, the Pioneers out-shot Rutgers-Camden, 6-1, in the opening half and held a 12-5 margin in the game.  The Pioneers had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, with four of them coming in the opening 45 minutes.

Both teams mounted their offensive pressure with the wind in overtime, with the Pioneers having three shots in the first 10-minute period and the Raptors countering with two in the second overtime.  William Paterson nearly won the game with two minutes remaining in the first overtime when junior Nicole Kufel (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional) put a shot off the left post.

Rutgers-Camden sophomore goalie Leighanna Milby collected four saves on the day, while Pioneer sophomore Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) had one.

William Paterson will host John Jay Monday, Oct. 17, at 5:00 p.m.
