Women's Soccer Blows Past St. Joseph's-Long Island, 5-1

Pioneers Get Win against Golden Eagles

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Sophomore Laela Brock (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) scored twice and classmate Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) added a goal and two assists as the William Paterson women's soccer team (1-2-1) blew past host St. Joseph's-Long Island (1-2-1), 5-1, Sept. 8.

Marabondo got things started with an unassisted strike in the 27th minute, then followed by providing the assists on Brock's goals in the 28th and 43rd minutes.

Freshman Sheray Anthony (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) scored her first career goal when she found the back of the net, unassisted, in the 56th minute. Fellow rookie Kelly Garrido (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.) then did the same, finishing a Jessica Bertoli (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) pass in the 68th minute. The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard two minutes later to finish the scoring.

Freshman Mary Jane Seiler (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) had one save for the Pioneers. Michelle Gulino made five stops for St. Joseph's-Long Island. The Pioneers owned a 15-4 edge in shots and a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.

William Paterson will open its home slate Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11:00 a.m. against FDU-Florham.
