Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – A late own goal off a Joe Maddolin (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) cross lifted the William Paterson men's soccer team (1-1) to a 2-1 victory against the host Hawks (0-2) Sept. 4 in the opening round of the Roger Williams/Turfer Classic.

Senior forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) gave the Pioneers a one-goal lead just 1:41 into the contest, converting on a free kick for his 24th career score.

Roger Williams made it a 1-1 contest in the 75th minute when Liam Isleib scored on a free kick of his own, but William Paterson got the go-ahead goal just 65 seconds later when the Hawks' defense knocked the ball into their own net off a failed clear of Maddolin's cross.

Junior Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) had four saves in his Pioneer debut. Peter Plate made seven stops for Roger Williams.

William Paterson will take on Plymouth State in the championship match the Roger Williams/Turfer Classic Sunday, Sept. 5, at 1:30 p.m.
