Ali Ruddy (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) provided two goals to lead the William Paterson women's soccer team (4-2-1, 1-0 NJAC) past New Jersey City (5-2, 0-1 NJAC), 3-0, Sept. 18 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
Numerous scoring opportunities arose for the Pioneers during the opening half of play, the first coming in the eighth minute from sophomore
Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury). Marabondo broke away from the defense and lined a shot that hit the crossbar and spun over the top, missing the back of the net by inches.
The Pioneers punched in the first goal of the match in the 24th minute following a yellow card issued to a Gothic Knight defender. Ruddy launched the free kick into the middle, top area of the net to give William Paterson the 1-0 advantage. Senior
Kathleen Maggi (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) also presented a scoring opportunity for William Paterson in the 40th minute when she was able to get a clear look at the net once the NJCU goalkeeper had come out for the stop, but missed wide to the left. New Jersey City had a chance to even the game in the last two minutes of the half when junior Jennifer Albuja laced a ball past the Pioneer defense and into the net, but the goal was nullified by an offside call.
William Paterson got their offense rolling early into the second half to enhance their lead. Maradondo scored inside the right post in the 59th minute off a touch by classmate
Casey McGuigan (Hightstown, N.J./Robbinsville), who slid the ball through the Gothic Knight defenders, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 edge. Ruddy buried her second goal of the night, a penalty kick to the right side of the frame, during the 65th minute to extend the Pioneer lead to 3-0.

Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) recorded four saves while NJCU's Laura Robinson had five.
