JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Three different goal scorers allowed William Paterson (4-1-1, 1-0 NJAC) to begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) men's soccer play with a 3-1 victory at New Jersey City (2-4, 0-1 NNJAC) Sept. 18.

Freshman midfielder Matt Nigro (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when he finished a rebound of a Ryan Miller (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) header, and William Paterson increased the margin to 2-0 in the 41st minute when sophomore midfielder Kevin Bzdek (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) one-timed a Chris Belan (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.) flick of a free kick.

J.P. Rosero trimmed that lead to one when he scored off a Nana Kofi Kusi assist 84 seconds into the second half, but less than five minutes later, the Pioneers extended the lead to 3-1. After a WP corner kick, NJCU failed to clear several loose balls in the box, and an alert Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) headed home his first goal of the season to conclude the scramble.

Junior Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made two saves for William Paterson. Miguel Perez and Zakary Azmi combined for two stops for the Gothic Knights. The Pioneers owned a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

William Paterson will host Montclair State Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
