Field Hockey Loses to Alvernia

Meade Scores Lone Goal in 6-1 Defeat

Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – Samantha Landis had a hat trick to lead Alvernia (4-1) in a 6-1 field hockey victory at William Paterson (1-5) Sept. 17.

Freshman Kyle Dillman got things started when she finished a Miranda Peto penalty-corner pass that rolled across the mouth of the goal, making it a 1-0 score in the 23rd minute. Just 52 seconds later, Landis got on the board, beating the William Paterson goalie from the center of the circle.

Landis struck again with a second unassisted goal in the 30th minute when her long blast found the back of the cage. The Crusaders made it a 4-0 lead with no time on the clock at the end of the first half, as Dillman finished off a Tonya Rutt pass on a penalty corner.

Landis finished her hat trick when she converted a Rutt penalty-corner pass 12 minutes into the second period. Sophomore Danielle Meade (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) broke the ice for the Pioneers less than three minutes later, converting a strike from the middle of the circle. Rutt later finished the scoring when she punched in a rebound in the 59th minute.

Junior Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) had 10 saves for the Pioneers. Abby Eby had one stop in the first half, and Samantha Leck made three during the second half, for Alvernia.

William Paterson will visit Wilkes Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m.
