WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore
Sophie Hart-Ruderman (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) scored in the 54th minute to lift the William Paterson women's soccer team (3-2-1) to a 1-0 victory against Centenary (2-5) Sept. 15 at Pioneer Soccer Park.
Hart-Ruderman punched in the rebound of a
Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) shot for the night's only goal, but it certainly wasn't the only chance of the match. Senior Jazmine Farrell forced a turnover by the Pioneer defense and sprinted to the goal, but WP goalkeeper
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) came off her line and snuffed out the breakaway with six minutes left in the opening period. Marabondo had a similar opportunity three minutes later when Hart-Ruderman placed a perfect ball to her in the midfield, but Cyclone keeper Ashley Denti's challenge was enough to deny Marabondo a clear look at the goal.
Centenary's best chance came with less than nine minutes to play on a Brittany Overland shot across the mouth of the goal, but William Paterson defender
Vikki Cicak (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) cleared it off the line to deny the Cyclones the equalizer.
Falduto had one save for the Pioneers, and Denti made seven stops for Centenary.
William Paterson will host New Jersey City Saturday, Sept. 18, at 6:00 p.m.
