Mike Lowe (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. duPont) scored both goals, including the game winner 37 seconds into the second overtime period, as the William Paterson men's soccer team (3-1-1) defeated Arcadia (2-3), 2-1, Sept. 11 at the Stevens College Classic.
Lowe broke the ice in the 16th minute, heading a
Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) free kick past Arcadia goalkeeper Phil McCarthy. That lead held up until the 83rd minute, when Joe Bagnell knocked in a rebound to tie the score and eventually force overtime.
Lowe collected his team-leading fourth goal of the year when got a head on a
Dan Fulmer (Andover, N.J./Newton) corner kick just seconds into the second extra session, depositing the ball into the lower-left corner of the goal for the game winner.
Junior
Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) had three saves for William Paterson, and McCarthy made five stops for Arcadia. The Pioneers had a 25-12 edge in shots, including a 4-0 advantage in overtime.
William Paterson will start New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Saturday, Sept. 18, at New Jersey City at 1:00 p.m.
