WAYNE, N.J. – Amanda Sheehan (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) celebrated Senior Night by scoring a pair of goals to lead William Paterson (6-13, 3-3 NJAC) to a 3-1 victory against Montclair State (11-7, 3-3 NJAC) in the field hockey season finale for both programs Nov. 5 at Wightman Stadium.

Montclair State dominated the early play and freshman Brittany Carroll took advantage of that pressure inside the circle to put the Red Hawks on top. With less than 20 minutes remaining in the first half, she blasted a shot from the right side of the circle for a 1-0 MSU advantage.

Sheehan evened the contest less than eight minutes into the second half when sophomore Kelsey Rella (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) dropped off a pass that Sheehan one-timed into the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season.

Rella made it a 2-1 score in the 51st minute after hitting the ball in on a penalty corner to freshman Jacqui Giammetta (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), who passed it right back to Rella on the end line. The sophomore beat Montclair State goalie Megan Bosland on a tough angle to the far post.

Sheehan finished the scoring 12 minutes later, using a Giammetta assist to poke the ball past Bosland from the center of the circle.

Junior goalie Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) had 10 saves for William Paterson, and graduate student Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) added a defensive save. Bosland had one stop for the Red Hawks, while Michelle Hagel contributed a defensive save.

Prior to the game, William Paterson honored Szeliga, Sheehan and senior Erin Garces (Cream Ridge, N.J./New Egypt).
