Men's Soccer Moves into NJAC Lead with 3-1 Win at Rowan

Nigro, Pipitone and Valerio Find Back of Net for Pioneers

GLASSBORO, N.J. – William Paterson (9-1-2, 4-0-1 NJAC) moved into first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) men's soccer standings with a 3-1 victory at Rowan (3-9-2, 0-5 NJAC) Oct. 9.

With the win, the Pioneers have 13 points to lead the league rankings, one ahead of both Montclair State (4-1, 12 points) and Kean (4-1, 12 points).

Freshman midfielder Matt Nigro (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) put William Paterson on top early, scoring from the middle of the box less than eight minutes into the contest. Senior Ambrogio Pipitone (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) later scored his third goal in as many matches when he converted an Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) pass in the 33rd minute.

Senior Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) made it a 3-0 score when he buried a penalty kick in the 61st minute. The Profs broke up the WP shutout when Joe Parella converted on a penalty kick with less than four minutes to play.

Junior Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) did not need to make a save in 68:34 in goal for William Paterson, while classmate Sam Gerais (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) played the remainder of the match between the posts. Rowan's Charlie Cunliffe and Michael Fanz-Huster combined for seven saves.

The Pioneers will host The College of New Jersey Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 7:00 p.m.
