Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (4-12) staked itself to an early 1-0 advantage, but visiting Drew (13-4) scored the game winner with less than five minutes to play, handing the Rangers a 3-2 field hockey victory Oct. 26.

A Danielle Meade (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) strike from the right side of the field was finished in the mouth of the goal by senior Amanda Sheehan (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) in the first five minutes of the game, giving the Pioneers a quick lead. The Rangers evened the contest in the 29th minute on a shot from the center by Mary Esposito that zipped past the Pioneer goalie.

A blast from the left wing to the back of the cage from Hannah Rau opened the second half for Drew, giving the Rangers a 2-1 advantage seven minutes into the period. Freshman Jacqui Giammetta's(Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) cross to classmate Jaclyn Bertos (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) resulted in the tying goal in the 56th minute, as Bertos was able to sweep the ball into the goal from the center of the circle.

Three consecutive shots in the 57th minute by Drew offensive players threatened to give the Rangers a decisive lead, but the Pioneer defense held, keeping the game tied. Kati Eggert's hard drive from the deep left wing gave the Rangers the go-ahead goal with 4:15 on the clock.

Junior goalie Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North) recorded nine saves in the loss, while Drew's Christiana Calini made three first-half saves and Lauren Fasano picked up the victory with her second-half play.

William Paterson will continue its four-game home stand Thursday, Oct. 28, against No. 8 Eastern at 7:00 p.m.
