Field Hockey Loses at No. 16 Rowan

Profs Defeat Pioneers, 5-0

GLASSBORO, N.J. – No. 16 Rowan (11-5, 5-0 NJAC) shut out visiting William Paterson (4-11, 1-3 NJAC), 5-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) field hockey play Oct. 23.

Seven minutes into the first period, Nicole Valianti had an unassisted goal, shooting the ball from the right side of the circle into the left corner of the cage. Two minutes later, Janna Tighe converted on a penalty corner, using assists from Julie Cairone and Rachael Dix for a 2-0 lead. Erin Bernat hit the back of the cage on a penalty stroke at the 12:37 mark, and the Rowan lead remained at 3-0 at halftime.

Cairone added a goal 8:30 in the second stanza. Dix passed the ball to Ashley Adams on the right side of the cage, Adams fired a shot and Cairone deflected it past goalie Meghan Trivett (Highlands, N.J./Middletown North). In the 69th minute, Ariel Corner deflected in a Dix shot from just inside the right side of the circle to finish the Rowan scoring.

Trivett had three saves and junior Mary O'Connor (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) made a defensive save for the Pioneers. Three different Prof goalies combined to make one save for Rowan.

William Paterson will host Drew Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7:00 p.m.
