Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (11-3-2) struck early and often, rolling to a 6-0 men's soccer victory against Lehman (5-11-1) Oct. 21 at Pioneer Soccer Park. Junior Joe Maddolin (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) and senior Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) each scored during the William Paterson win.

Maddolin wasted no time getting the Pioneers on the scoreboard, heading in a Valerio corner at the far post 45 seconds into the match.

Valerio made it a 2-0 score in the 18th minute, beating Lehman keeper Marcos Coto-Batres with a shot from the left wing that sailed just below the crossbar. Sophomore Stephen Stewart (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) contributed the assist for the first point of his career.

Just three minutes later, freshman Mike Lowe (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) sent a ball that classmate Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) tapped in on the goal line. Junior Anthony Ferrer (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany) made it 4-0 count 20 seconds later, taking a Stewart pass and bombing a shot from the left wing.

With less than 14 minutes to play in the opening half, Valerio collected his second goal of the night, finishing a Matt Nigro (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) pass from the deep left wing that found the inside of the right post.

The score became 6-0 in the Pioneers' favor in the 58th minute when Maddolin received a ball at the top of the box, cut it back and sent a rocket past Coto-Batres.

Freshman Santiago Mesa (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) started in goal for the Pioneers, making two saves. Junior Sam Gerais (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) played the final 19:20 for William Paterson. Coto-Batres made nine stops for the Lightning.

The Pioneers will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Oct. 23, against Rutgers-Newark at 1:00 p.m.
