WAYNE, N.J. – Three quick goals allowed William Paterson (9-2-3, 6-0-1 NJAC) to clinch a bid to the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Soccer Tournament with a 3-0 victory against visiting Rutgers-Camden (2-11-2, 0-5-2 NJAC) Oct. 16.
The Pioneers remain atop the league standings, and with two conference matches remaining, William Paterson has assured itself at least a top-three finish. The top two teams will receive byes for the NJAC Tournament first-round matches to be conducted Oct. 30.
The Pioneers struck first in the 16th minute of the match when sophomore
Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) beat the Rutgers-Camden defenders from the right side of the field and converted to the far side of the net. A free kick from senior
Ali Ruddy (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) found the foot of
Laela Brock (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) in the right side of the box, and Brock scored inside the far post to give the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage in the 30th minute. Just two minutes later, a floating pass from
Jessica Francisco (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) found Marabondo, who scored her second goal of the day and her ninth of the season.
Freshman
Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) did not have to make a save to collect her sixth shutout of the season. Freshmen Leighanna Milby and Kelly Harper combined to make six saves for the Scarlet Raptors. William Paterson had a 13-0 advantage in both shots and corner kicks.
The Pioneers will visit Vassar Monday, Oct. 18, at 4:00 p.m.
