MADISON, N.J. – William Paterson head coach
Ed Gurka earned his 300th women's swimming and diving victory as the Pioneers (6-1) defeated host FDU-Florham (1-6), 105-76, Dec. 5.
Gurka, in his 34th season coaching at William Paterson, now owns a women's career record of 300-143-3. He also is 279-146 as the men's coach for a combined record of 579-289-3.
Three Pioneers were individual double winners against the Devils. Junior
Tara Graham (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) posted winning times in the 50 free (27.62) and 100 back (1:09.59), senior
Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) was victorious in the 100 (59.94) and 200 (2:10.19) frees, and sophomore
Brett Kuchin (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) touched first in the 200 IM (2:28.89) and 100 breast (1:14.18).
Sophomore
Stephanie Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) finished first in the 100 fly (1:07.93), and junior
Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) won the 500 free (5:59.91).
Donna Balagtas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), Kuchin, Smith and
Taylor McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) won the 200 medley relay (2:03.37), and Rotondo,
Lesly Mendoza (Passaic, N.J./Paramus Catholic), Smith and Graham finished first in the 200 free relay (1:52.08).
The Pioneers will host Purchase Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 6:00 p.m.
