Field Hockey Falls in Season Finale, 2-1

Pioneers Lose at Kean; Szeliga Scores Third Goal of Season

UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (9-9, 2-4 NJAC) saw its season come to an end with a 2-1 loss at Kean (11-4, 3-3 NJAC) Nov. 3.

Following a scoreless first half, the Cougars broke through with a strike by Brittany Gibbs in the 53rd minute, followed by an Erica Kelly goal off an assist from Lauren Kusik 10 minutes later.

Junior Melissa Szeliga (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) cut that advantage in half with 5:43 remaining, converting on a penalty stroke for her third goal of the season.

Senior goalie Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) had one save for the Pioneers, while Lauren Dobbs made seven stops for Kean. William Paterson out-shot the Cougars 14-7 in the contest.
