Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (5-6) found the back of the cage three times during the last 18 minutes, exploding for a 5-2 field hockey victory against visiting Wilkes (8-2) Oct. 5.

Tied at 2-2 in the 53rd minute, senior Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) re-directed a pass on the goal line from senior Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton), scoring her third goal of the year and giving the Pioneers an advantage they would not relinquish.

Freshman Kelsey Rella (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) tipped in a Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) long hit off a penalty corner, making it a 4-2 edge less than 13 minutes later. Rella then finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal with 52 seconds remaining.

The Pioneers struck less than five minutes into the contest when Feriod finished Winkelspecht's pass into the back of the cage, handing WP a 1-0 lead 4:18 into the contest.

The Colonels got the goal back in the 17th minute, as freshman Jenna DiSabatino received the ball in the middle of the circle, pulled it back and scored. Wilkes made it a 2-1 game less than six minutes later when sophomore Amanda Peters cleaned up a Jennifer Keegan shot that was saved by WP goalie Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills).

William Paterson knotted the contest at 2-2 during the 46th minute, as Ayusa took advantage of a scramble in front of the cage, scoring her fifth goal of the season.

Sophomore Lindsey Davenport made eight saves for Wilkes, and Auger had three for William Paterson. Sophomore Meghan Bardeer (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) contributed a defensive save for the Pioneers during the first half.

William Paterson will host Misericordia Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:00 p.m.
