CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Kate Fay deflected in the game-winning goal in the first overtime, giving Widener (5-3) a 2-1 victory against William Paterson (4-6) Oct. 3 at Edith R. Dixon Field.
Widener was awarded a penalty corner at the end of the first overtime. With play extended and no time on the clock, Fay deflected a shot from junior Amanda Nagy past goalie
Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills). Fay made the original pass on the penalty corner to sophomore Natalie Gifford, who was credited with the secondary assist.
The Pride took advantage of another penalty corner just 1:10 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Nicole Nardone received a pass from senior Ellen Etzweiler and buried it for the goal.
Ally Hartman (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Twp.) tallied for William Paterson to even the score with 5:01 left in the first half.
Junior Megan Scarpinato recorded five shots for Widener and also kept the game tied by hustling on a defensive save to stop
Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) early in overtime. Senior Katie Jensen recorded the win in 50 minutes of shutout action.
