WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (5-6-3) had its most lopsided victory since 2003 as the Pioneers defeated Staten Island (3-9-2) by a 10-0 score Oct. 19.
The last time William Paterson scored 10 goals was Nov. 1, 2003, in a 12-0 home victory against New Jersey City. The Pioneers owned a 41-0 advantage in shots and a 10-0 edge in corner kicks. The Dolphins were at an obvious disadvantage, arriving for the match with only nine players.
Just 1:18 into the match, a
Kathleen Maggi (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) shot deflected off the Dolphins' defense and into the goal for the Pioneers' first score of the afternoon. Sophomore
Megan Droelle (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) connected on a
Laela Brock (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) pass from the right flank to the near post in the seventh minute, scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
Junior
Vikki Cicak (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) struck twice on very similar shots during a nine-minute span, sending long balls from deep on the left wing that fooled CSI keeper Mayda Perdomo, making it a 4-0 score in the 17th minute.
Freshman
Casey McGuigan (Hightstown, N.J./Robbinsville) scored her first career goal, settling a
Drea Wagoner (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley) cross inside the box and beating the keeper in the 37th minute. Freshman
Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) finished the first-half scoring with her first goal as a collegian, dribbling through the defense and burying the ball with 18 seconds remaining before the break.
Junior
Ali Ruddy (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) sent a long ball to Brock, who shot low and scored her first career goal 38 seconds into the second period. Wagoner later drilled a
Heidi Rogers (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) pass off the right post and into the netting, making it an 8-0 contest in the 50th minute.
McGuigan knocked home a Wagoner cross in the 64th minute for her second goal of the day, and sophomore
Jessica Francisco (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) finished the scoring with an unassisted strike from the far-left wing during the 85th minute of play.
Perdomo had 10 saves for the Dolphins. Senior
Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) played the first half, and freshman
Erin Wydner (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) played the second half, in goal for the Pioneers.
