Field Hockey Upsets No. 16 Stevens, 2-0

Pioneers Gets Goals from Ayusa, Winkelspecht

Senior Christina Ayusa scored the game winner, her seventh goal of the year, in a 2-0 victory against No. 16 Stevens.

WAYNE, N.J. -- William Paterson (7-7) used goals by seniors Christina Ayusa (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) and Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) to secure a 2-0 upset victory against No. 16 Stevens (10-3) Oct. 14 at Wightman Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half, William Paterson got on the scoreboard during the 43rd minute when Ayusa drilled home a pass from Jennie Hara (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) during a penalty corner. For Ayusa, it was her team-leading seventh goal of the season, and her third game-winning goal of the year. The Pioneers tacked on an insurance goal in the 62nd minute when Winkelspecht knocked in a rebound, unassisted.

Senior Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) had three saves for William Paterson, and Ellyn Griggs made two stops for the Ducks.

The victory marked the second straight year that WP upset Stevens, as 16th-ranked William Paterson was a 3-2 winner at No. 14 Stevens last Oct. 15.

The Pioneers will celebrate Senior Night Friday, Oct. 16, when they host Richard Stockton at 7:00 p.m.
