Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – In its conference men's soccer home-opener against rival Ramapo (5-4, 1-1 NJAC), No. 19 William Paterson (6-0-2, 1-0-1 NJAC) used a picturesque goal from Julian Valerio (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) to highlight its 2-0 win over the Roadrunners at Pioneer Soccer Park Sept. 24.

The Pioneers capitalized on a slew of Ramapo fouls during the first 10 minutes to score their first goal. Junior Jonathan Donado (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) had his free kick from the right side barely miss the goal, but sophomore back Joe Strawman (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) swooped in and collected the ball, burying the rebound to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.

Later, in the 44th minute of the period, Valerio set up alone on the left side of the field and bent a 25-yard chip shot into the upper-right corner of the net, giving William Paterson a 2-0 advantage before the break.

William Paterson junior goalie Dan Peragallo (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) earned his fourth shutout. He collected four of his six saves during the second half against a surging Ramapo offense, one that had its last quality chance at a goal hit the crossbar during the 81st minute. Ramapo's Ian Tighe made one save in the loss.

No. 19 William Paterson will continue conference action when it travels to Rowan Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7:00 p.m. The Roadrunners will host Richard Stockton Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
