Box Score
WAYNE, N.J. – Senior forward
Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) scored goals in each period as the William Paterson women's soccer team (6-0, 1-0 NJAC) won its conference opener 2-0 against visiting Rutgers-Camden (6-2, 0-1 NJAC) at Pioneer Soccer Park Sept. 20.
Kurdyla scored her ninth and 10th goals of the season, both on passes from
Sophie Hart-Ruderman (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia), to lead the Pioneers to their second-straight shutout win.
WP's leading scoring duo hooked up in the sixth minute of the first period. Kurdyla received the pass from Hart-Ruderman and sent a right-footed shot to the left corner, giving the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
Midway through the second period, as fouls accumulated and the physicality increased, Kurdyla reached the scoring ledger once again. After missing earlier in the period on a penalty kick, Kurdyla sent a shot past the goalkeeper into the left edge for her second goal of the game, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead in the 80th minute.
WP's
Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) did not record a save but was aggressive coming out to thwart any breakaways by the Scarlet Raptors. Jayme Gatti made five saves while taking the loss for Rutgers-Camden.
The Pioneers will play in their first conference road game Wednesday, Sept.24, at Ramapo at 4:30 p.m.
