Box Score
WAYNE, N.J. – Senior
Amanda Kurdyla (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) scored her eighth goal of the season, while freshman teammate
Ashley Grabowski (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) recorded her first career score, to lead the William Paterson women's soccer team (5-0) to a 2-0 shutout win against Centenary (1-4-1) Sept. 17 at the Pioneer Soccer Park.
After dodging a few bullets on the defensive end, Kurdyla connected with a cross from
Kelly Bray (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) in the 31st minute, giving William Paterson a 1-0 lead. Kurdyla finished the game with five shots on goal.
The Pioneers then used a great connection in the 68th minute of the second period to seal the victory. Sophomore
Kathleen Maggi (New Milford, N.J. /New Milford) lofted a pass over the heads of the defenders from midfield, and Grabowski ran onto it and laced a shot to the back of the net.
WP posted its second shutout of the season, but Centenary's Caitlin Veverka nearly changed that with three shots on goal during the first 10 minutes, including a blast off the crossbar and two close-range saves by Pioneer goalkeeper
Meghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls). Ashley Denti made several nice plays in goal for the Cyclones and finished with six saves in the loss.
William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Saturday, Sept. 20, hosting Rutgers-Camden at 5:00 p.m.
