Junior Amber Scott's hat trick led WP in a 5-1 win against FDU-Florham.
Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – Junior Amber Scott (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra) scored three goals, two of them coming on assists from classmate Jodi Feriod (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro), as the William Paterson field hockey team (5-1) raced to a 5-1 victory against FDU-Florham (3-3) at Wightman Stadium Sept.16.

Scott put the Pioneers ahead early in the fifth minute when she knocked in her second goal of the season on a long pass from Feriod. In the 15th minute, Scott found space in front of the net to score an unassisted goal, her third of the season, for a 2-0 lead.

With just over six minutes remaining in the period, FDU-Florham's penalty corner resulted in an infraction by the Pioneers. Laura Core took advantage of the opportunity, slipping the penalty stroke past a diving Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) to cut the lead to 2-1.

In the second half, FDU-Florham temporarily held the Pioneers in check, including a defensive save by junior back Stephanie Cruz. But, the Pioneers and Scott delivered again in the 57th minute, when she cleaned up a Feriod miss from the right to collect her third goal of the night and give the Pioneers a 3-1 advantage.

During the 58th minute, junior Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) scored her fourth goal of the season, then assisted on sophomore Lauren Duensing's (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) goal in the 64th minute to make it a 5-1 Pioneers cushion.

Auger collected four saves for her fifth win of the season, while Jamie SanFilippo (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) played the first 35:00 minutes and allowed two goals with three saves to drop to 3-3.
William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference play Saturday, Sept. 20, at No. 9 Rowan at 7:00 p.m.
